Welcome to Primitive Cookie Hugs.

As you can see, we're just getting started, but are so thrilled to have our name on the web, we had to go ahead and put up a few words.

Our is up and running and we're excited to have it.  So click on over and read up on us.

I have discovered that I truly prefer the Primitive/Country style decor.  And, well....... Gingerbread is one of my absolute favorites!

When I think about country, scenes from my childhood play across my memories.  Most often I remember when my Uncle Matt and Aunt Lula lived in New Castle, Kentucky.  I'm sure I've romanticized the house and farm, but there is much I remember that is exactly as it was.

Let me share a few memories.

The house was two stories.  The bottom floor had a huge, eat-in kitchen, a formal dining room, a bedroom and the living room. There was a little area at the bottom of the stairs that had a telephone table. The upstairs had, as well as I can remember, 2 bedrooms and the bath.  There was a large open area at the top of the stairs.  There may have been a couple of more rooms, but I don't recall ever being in them.

I absolutely loved that bathroom.  The best part was the huge claw-foot bathtub.  I've wanted one of those my entire adulthood.  One day, I hope to have one.

One cherished memory includes helping Aunt Lula make biscuits.  She used "sweet" milk and rolled them out on the porcelain enamel pull out attached to her Hoosier cabinet.  We would cut them with the open end of a drinking glass.

Another is the Warm Morning coal stove that heated the house.  It was so different from the wood stove I use now.  But, it felt good to stand next to it on those chilly mornings.

Speaking of chilly mornings.  Aunt Lula had the most awesome feather beds!  They sure kept one warm, even during the coldest weather.

Now, I am a canner.  I love my home grown, home preserved food.  I come by it naturally because I'm from a long line of women who had to preserve their food to feed their families throughout the winter.  Another memory I have is accompanying Aunt Lula down into the root cellar.  No, this wasn't a basement like we have today.  It was a nice hole in the ground.  I can't remember if it was round or square.  I think it was round and had the red bricks.  I do remember how cool it was during the summer and the food that came up from there was really good.

As time goes on, I'll be selling handmade items that I, or my mother, make.  We have lots of ideas in the works.  I may even have some treasures I find to share with you.
